When Pigs Fly Kosher BBQ Cook-Off

Over the past decade, Temple Beth-El’s When Pigs Fly Kosher BBQ Cook-Off has brought together top back-yard Kosher BBQ’ers from around Birmingham and the Southeast. This year, as a part of the Friedman Family Jewish Food and Culture Fest on Sunday, September 8th, 2019, teams will again compete for the “Flying Pig” Best-All Around Team Trophy.

Competition categories for 2019 will be for BBQ Brisket, BBQ Chicken, Baked Beans, Booth Decor and Creative Team Name. Food for the BBQ and entire Jewish Food Festival is prepared under Kosher supervision, allowing all from the Jewish and Muslim communities to enjoy the festival. Using standards based on the Kansas City BBQ Society, celebrity judges will select the best entries in each category prepared by competing teams. Scores of teams have competed in past years, and this year’s winner will receive a $250 cash prize in addition to the Flying Pig Best All-Around Team Trophy.
